The History of ASAP
For 20 years leading innovation
ASAP is an Inter-University Research Center engaged in scientific research on innovative business models and advanced services in industrial enterprises. The ASAP community includes professionals of academic affiliation, managers, entrepreneurs, and industry experts who actively cooperate to create innovation and shared value.
Scientific research on frontier issues, university, managerial, and professional training, and transfer of research results are the goals that accompany us to new goals every day. With twenty years of experience behind us and a focus always on future development opportunities, we respond concretely and promptly to the needs of enterprises.
Our History
ASAP Community was born as the result of a research of national interest funded by the Ministry of University and Research (MIUR) in the PRIN (Projects of Significant National Interest) program. The project involves research teams from 5 different universities: the University of Bergamo, the University of Brescia, the University of Florence, the Luigi Bocconi Commercial University of Milan, and the Milan Polytechnic.
The objective is to analyze changes in the competitive strategies of industrial companies, the impact of after-sales services, and best practices for the operational management of after-market processes. The first ASAP conference at Politecnico di Milano records the participation of more than 200 academics and managers.
Numerous requests for collaboration on research and training activities led to building a true university/company community. The ASAP Service Management Forum was established to foster collaboration among research teams.
Early activities focus on after-sales service management, with workshops organized and international guests participating. Two years later, the publication of the book "Redesigning Post-Sales Service" for Hoepli editore collects the research experiences and business cases explored in the first years of activities.
After years of intensive research and training activities, with the advent of Industry 4.0, ASAP shifted its focus to digital transition and Service Transformation.
It thus becomes a reference point for studying the impact of enabling technologies such as IoT, additive printing, artificial intelligence, and augmented reality on services.
ASAP becomes an Interuniversity Research Center, formally recognized by the chancellors of the four universities involved (Bergamo, Brescia, Florence, and Eastern Piedmont). Study activities focus on the relationships between digitization and servitization, with an emphasis on the impact on people and digital skills.
The dynamics of diffusion of advanced business models such as Equipment-as-a-Service and Digital Platforms are explored, as well as the links between servitization, environmental sustainability, circular economy, and social innovation. The first European survey on the diffusion of digital servitization was launched.
ASAP today: research, training and enhancement
After 20 years of operation, the ASAP Interuniversity Research Center continues to carry out its three core missions: scientific research, training, and knowledge transfer in the field of servitization and service delivery associated with industrial products and goods.
Its expertise is essential to the growth, development, and differentiation strategies of Italian industrial enterprises.
With daily dedication and an ongoing interest in creating an open and dynamic innovation ecosystem, we contribute to changing the industrial and economic landscape to define a more efficient, inclusive, and flexible system.
